HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
Job Responsibilities
- Travel to worksites to repair heavy construction equipment
- Safely operate and maintain the various types of heavy equipment (excavators, blades, scrapes, & other miscellaneous construction equipment)
- Identify and diagnose malfunctions using computerized tools and equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment
- Perform various scheduled maintenance tasks both in the field and shop
- Overhaul and test major components, such as electrical systems, hydraulics and engines
- Maintain a clean cab
- Use hand tools as needed
- Attend and participate in daily or weekly safety meeting
- Perform construction related work as required
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, cold, noise and other conditions common to a construction site
- May require irregular hours, out-of-town work, overnight stays, nights, weekends and holidays
- May require working in safe trench conditions
Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Ability to pass and maintain pre-employment and random drug-screenings
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical
- Ability to pass work history verification
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Requires use of mechanic’s personal tools
- Positive and safe work history
- Reliable means of transportation to and from assigned projects
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and operating levers or controls
- Use of foot controls and pedals
- Climbing, manual and finger dexterity including eye-hand coordination
- Requires good or corrected vision and hearing within normal range
- Requires working under stressful conditions
- Requires ability to follow directions
- Ability to understand and follow safety guidelines
- Experience working on truck and diesel equipment and trucks
CDL Qualifications
- Must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL – Class B)
- Required to provide photocopy of your driver’s license for a Motor Vehicle Report can be obtained
- Ability to provide a current copy of your medical certificate and physical examination form
- Ability to pass the company road test
- Verifiable employment history for the past 10 years for which you operated a commercial motor vehicle
- Endorsements for tanker, doubles, hazardous materials is preferred
- Verifiable good driving history for the past 3 years:
- No DWI in past 3 years
- No failure to stop/report an accident
- No more than 2 speeding tickets in 1 year
- No making false accident reports
- No homicide, manslaughter, or assault arising from the use of a vehicle
- No driving while license is suspended/revoke
Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
- Preference for individuals with experience in Heavy Civil Construction
